Memsahib Kitchen – 26 July 2020

The Memsahib can simply be defined as a European woman in India during this period. Repeatedly mentioned in history books, these Anglo-Indian women are recognised for empowering women in India, whilst introducing Cheltenham to the Anglo-Indian culture. Bridging a gap between the nation, people and heritage.

In India, the Memsahib would host a feast in the comfort of her own home for her family and friends. Together we will be learning how to make a few of the Colonial foods created during the days of the Raj, showcased in the Memsahib’s kitchen. Our objective today is to recreate those Anglo-Indian dishes often cooked by the Khansamas in Memsahib’s supervision.

Proposed sample items:

  • Tandoori scallops, scallop samosa peas and parsley chaat.
  • Chicken tikka, British apple and onion salad, tomato chutney.
  • Beef kardai, spinach bhaji, ginger and chilli salsa
  • Jaggery and cardamom gin cheesecake
